Your images are resized and resampled when using Rename Files in the editor of Photoshop Elements 7Products affected

Issue

When you use Process Multiple Files in Photoshop Elements7 to batch rename files, the destination files change in size and appear to have been resampled.

Reason

Files are converted to a low quality when no file type conversion is used.

Solution

Do one of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Use Windows Explorer to rename your files (Windows only)
  1. Open My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows Vista) and navigate to the folder that contains your files.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • To select all the files in the folder, press Ctrl+A.
    • To select consecutive files, click the first file you want to rename, and then Shift+click the last file.
    • To select non-consecutive files, Ctrl+click each file.
  3. Choose Edit > Rename (Windows XP) or Organize > Rename (Windows Vista).
  4. Type the new file name and press Enter.

When you press Enter, all the files will have the same name and will be numbered sequentially. For example, if your original file names were cake.jpg, candles.jpg, and presents.jpg and you typed "birthday" as the new file name, the new files would be called birthday.jpg, birthday (2).jpg, and birthday (3).jpg.

Solution 2: Use Adobe Bridge to rename your files.

If you have Adobe Bridge installed on your machine, you can batch rename files using the following steps.

  1. Launch Bridge.
  2. Choose Tools > Batch Rename.
  3. In the Batch Rename dialogue choose the settings for how you want the files to be renamed
  4. Click Rename.
