Photoshop Elements 6 Organizer appears to freeze when you open the Contact BookProducts affected

Issue

When you open the Contact Book in the Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 Organizer, the Organizer appears to freeze.

Reason

Solution

Do one or both of the following solutions:

Solution 1: Wait for the Organizer to finish loading the Contact Book.

The Photoshop Elements Organizer may take a long time to load the contents of your existing contact list. Wait for the Organizer to read the entire contact list--do not assume that the application is frozen.

Once the contact list has been read and populated in the Contact Book, you can decrease the amount of time it takes to access the Contact Book in the future by deleting contacts with whom you do not share photos.

Note: If you use Microsoft Outlook 2003, then Outlook may display the following message when you choose to import contacts:

"A program is trying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this?"

If this message appears, then do the following steps:

  1. Select Allow Access For.
  2. Choose 10 Minutes from the pop-up menu.
  3. Click Yes.
Solution 2: Delete the contacts.xml file and re-import your contacts.

If the Organizer does not respond after several minutes, then the contacts.xml file may be corrupted. Delete the file and then re-import your contacts.

Note: This procedure requires you to locate hidden files, hidden folders, or files by their full file names, which include extensions (for example, contacts.xml). By default, Windows Explorer doesn't display hidden files, hidden folders, and file name extensions that it recognizes. For instructions on making these items visible, see "Show hidden files, hidden folders, and all file name extensions in Windows Explorer (Windows XP)" (TechNote kb404856) or "Show hidden files, hidden folders, and all file name extensions in Windows Explorer (Windows Vista)" (TechNote kb404880).

  1. If the Organizer is still open and not responding, then use the Task Manager to close the Organizer by doing the following:
    1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete.
    2. Click Task Manager.
    3. Choose the Applications tab.
    4. Select Organizer - Photoshop Elements 6.0.
    5. Click End Task.
    6. Click End Now on any dialog boxes that appear.
  2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder that contains the contacts.xml file for Photoshop Elements:
    • Windows XP: Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Organizer\Settings.
    • Windows Vista: Navigate to C:\Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\Organizer\Settings.
  3. Delete contacts.xml.
  4. If Adobe Photoshop Album has never been installed on your computer, then go to Step 6. If Photoshop Album is installed or was installed in the past, then navigate to the folder that contains the contacts.xml file for Photoshop Album:
    • Windows XP: Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop Album\Settings.
    • Windows Vista: Navigate to C:\Program Data\Adobe\Photoshop Album\Settings.
  5. Delete contacts.xml.
  6. Open Photoshop Elements, and open the Organizer.
  7. Choose Edit > Contact Book.
  8. Click the Import button and follow the on-screen instructions to re-import your contacts.
