Issue
When you try to open the Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 Organizer on Windows Vista, the application closes during its startup process and returns this error:
- "You have an older version of QuickTime that may be incompatible with Microsoft Windows Vista. Please upgrade to the latest version of QuickTime to avoid seeing the following error dialog when launching Photoshop Elements in the future."
Reason
An outdated version of Apple QuickTime or a damaged QuickTime file is preventing the Photoshop Elements 6 Organizer from starting.
Installing QuickTime is not required in order to use Photoshop Elements 6, but installing QuickTime allows you to view QuickTime content in the Organizer. If QuickTime is installed, then the Organizer will try to load QuickTime libraries during its startup process.
Solution
Install or reinstall the latest version of QuickTime.
To update QuickTime, install the latest version available from the Apple website at www.apple.com/quicktime/download.
To replace damaged QuickTime files, remove QuickTime and delete any QuickTime files or folders that remain on the system, and then reinstall QuickTime.
For assistance with removing QuickTime from your system, see one of these articles on the Apple web site at www.apple.com/support:
- "Removing iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows XP" (Article HT1925).
- "Removing iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista" (Article HT1923).
